Educational Tech Week in Review
It’s been an interesting and diversified week in educational tech news. Pan American Bank (Los Angeles) announced that it will host a fundraiser to benefit Latino Literacy Now (http://www.lbff.us/), a nonprofit organization supported and chaired by actor and community activist Edward James Olmos. Latino Literacy Now promotes reading as a means of improving the personal and professional lives of Latinos. Latino Literacy Now produces the Latino Book & Family Festival, a weekend event that promotes literacy, culture and education in a fun environment for the whole family. The festival is held in key Latino markets across the country.
Raymond Nelson stepped out of his brother's huge shadow last fall to help Modesto Christian High soar to a state small schools football championship. On Wednesday he reinforced what he's claimed all along -- that being known as Reeves Nelson's little brother is not so bad -- by making a verbal commitment to play football at UCLA, where his brother will be a sophomore on the basketball team this winter. And in other college football news… Florida State University football player Ed Imeokparia was referred to pre-trial intervention on Thursday after his arraignment at the Bay County Courthouse on grand theft charges. USA Funds awarded organizations in 11 states and the District of Columbia 100 grants totaling $2.8 million. USA Funds awarded these grants to enhance awareness of and preparation for, access to and success in post-secondary education. American families are benefiting from postsecondary education with help from USA Funds, a nonprofit organization. And Computer Generated Solutions Inc. (CGS) has been recognized as Microsoft (News - Alert) U.S. Public Sector partner of the year in education. That’s all for now! Erin Monda is a TMCnet Contributing Editor.
