Nursing Students Prepare for Entry Level Examinations with Modality's NCLEX

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

NCLEX prep on iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod touch with its popular line of nursing apps is being embraced by nursing students, according to Modality, Inc., a mobile learning architects for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

The entry-level nursing competence of candidates is tested by the compulsory National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX. The NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations were taken by over 285,000 individuals between October 2008 and September 2009.

Hundreds of board-style questions in each app are offered by Modality’s NCLEX prep series. This prep series has been created by Modality in collaboration with Elsevier. A unique on-the-go study opportunity for nursing students has been created by a customizable quiz dashboard and detailed assessment tools.

According to the content area, the questions are categorized. The user’s strong and weak spots are reflected by the statistics. This delivers a more streamline approach to studying. Unscored review of any and all content sections is provided by the question browser mode. The ability to bookmark and save specific questions for further study is also provided by each app.

In a release, Nate O’Keefe, director, publishing, Modality said, “Nursing students have to complete thousands of review questions in preparation for the NCLEX, adding up to weeks, even months of studying. The iPhone and iPod touch are revolutionary devices that users want to carry with them everywhere. Our apps enable students to prep for the NCLEX wherever they are, in whatever time they have available; whether it's a few minutes to answer a handful of questions or an hour to tackle a comprehensive quiz. Customers have reported that it’s an ideal way to get through the daunting volume of material.”

13 apps, from three popular Elsevier series are spanned by Modality’s NCLEX test prep catalog. These include “Mosby’s Review Questions for the NCLEX-RN Exam: Childbearing and Women’s Health” and “Medical-Surgical, Mental Health, and Pediatric”. 6 volumes of Saunders Q&A Review for the NCLEX-RN are also included along with 3 volumes of Saunders Q&A Review for the NCLEX-PN. These apps are available at the App Store or www.itunes.com/appstore/.
