Distance education is an emerging technology that is widely being used by educational institutions around the world.
eScience Labs, Inc., which develops quality, safe, hands-on lab supplements to support educators' and students' science curriculum, continues to provideinnovative solutions for distance learning science education.
The company has released an IMS common cartridge that can be customized to any LMS platform. The common cartridge will initially be introduced for introductory biology products, and soon other courses are scheduled to follow. This is intended to provide increased instructor and student ease of use.
'Enhancing student and instructor experience is a top priority for the product development team,' Dr. Ann Marie Bottcher, director of Curriculum Development said.
Reportedly, e-Science courses are the last subjects to transition to distance learning courses, and this primarily because the traditional laboratory environment, which is an absolute must for science courses, is difficult to attain.
E-Science has succeeded in introducing online lab courses. The course cartridge will provide a single sign-on for the lecture and the lab component. Instructors can add the e-Science manual to their online platform and everything that is required to perform experiments will be delivered to the student.
'The course cartridge provides a 'turn-key' approach to online lab courses,' president and CEO, Dr. Nicolas Benedict, said, adding that by utilizing the functionality of the LMS, teachers are provided with increased convenience when endeavoring to put a lab course online.
