THINK Together Integrates PCS's Edventures!' New Academy of Robotics Labs into After-School Programs

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

In an effort to encourage STEM, or “science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” education, PCS Edventures! reportedly has integrated its new ‘Academy of Robotics Labs’ successfully into California's THINK Together's middle school and after-school programs at multiple sites.

PCS Edventures! primarily designs, develops as well as delivers educational learning labs from technology-rich topics in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to services that are rich in imagination, innovation, and creativity.

THINK Together is a non-profit organization in California providing after-school programs to students. Serving 35,000 students at more than 200 schools and community centers throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties, this organization offers students with fun and a safe place to learn and grow – by partnering with schools, parents and communities.

The partnership programs, whether public or private, of THINK Together not only provides academic enrichment to students, but also provides homework assistance, dynamic physical activities, and nutrition education, said officials with THINK Together.

Recently, THINK Together received a grant from Edison Electric to increase Math and Science test scores for middle school students. This grant enabled THINK Together to purchase PCS Edventures!’s Academy of Robotics Labs, valued at more than USD $170,000.

PCS has worked with THINK Together for several years and has also implemented many BrickLabs into the organization's after-school programs, nearly three years ago.

Currently, 41 middle schools throughout Southern California have been implemented with Academy of Robotics Labs. Additionally, facilitators have also finished the professional development training that is necessary to make the new Robotics program a success, say officials with PCS, in a press release.

In the release, Randy Barth, founder and CEO of THINK Together, said, "Thanks to the generosity of Southern California Edison (News - Alert), Academy of Robotics Labs will now be available to over 11,000 students in our programs at 41 middle school sites during the current school year." Barth added, "The focus of our after-school programs is no longer simply fun and games. When aligned with a child's school day schedule, after-school programs can extend a student's available learning time by up to 50 percent."

Bill Albert, VP of western sales for PCS Edventures!, said that businesses, government, and educational leaders are urging a redoubled commitment to strengthen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. With the help of contribution from Southern California Edison and Edison International, THINK Together could integrated the Academy of Robotics Labs into their middle school and after-school programs, thereby facilitating students in Southern California with STEM learning systems.
