By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Skoodat, a company serving the education ecosystem, has reportedly announced that Washington, DC-based AlwaysOn has selected the company as one of the top 100 private companies contributing to the renewed and continued prosperity of the country.

The AlwaysOn editorial along with KPMG and other industry experts across the globe scoured the entrepreneurial community to identify the top 100 private companies.

“From deep-dive genome sequencing techniques that will catalyze an age of burgeoning medical cures, to open online education platforms leveling the socioeconomic barriers to quality instruction, these technology companies are out to prove that the toughest economic conditions in 70 years are no match for the entrepreneurial chutzpah of the American tech sector,” Matt Bowman of AlwaysOn, said in a statement. “The OnDC 100 are pouring on the elbow grease needed to launch the United States and the globe into an age of renewed prosperity.”

Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Skoodat offers simple, customizable education performance apps for students, parents, teachers, principals, school systems and policy makers. Company is also a proud member of salesforce.com Power of Us partner and a certified B Corporation.

Officials at Skoodat said that their education platform and apps are all designed with usable data in mind, providing powerful reporting capabilities at the click of a button. It minimizes the risk involved in implementing education technology by dramatically reducing the need for up-front investment. The only thing users need to get started is a computer with a Web browser.

“We all want to know that our kids are making adequate progress,” Ken McElrath, Skoodat CEO said in a statement. “We want our children to succeed. That’s really what Skoodat is about. We use incredible cloud computing power in our computer software to put meaningful information into the hands of teachers, parents, and policy makers. That information can dramatically change the status quo in our schools.”

The OnDC 100 winners were selected from among hundreds of technology companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists and industry insiders. The AlwaysOn editorial team said that they conducted a rigorous three-month selection process to finalize the 2009 list.
