Frontier Communications New Program to Improve Educational Settings in Local Schools
After a recent survey by OfficeMax found that 97 percent of the teachers surveyed said their schools were impacted by tighter budgets, and 86 percent of teachers said budgets cuts affected their ability to secure necessary classroom supplies, something had to be done.
And it looks as though something may be in the works in order to improve the school environment and improve technology offered for students. Therefore, rural America’s education systems may be receiving a revamp, that is, if donations are plentiful in a new program to improve schools. Frontier Communications Corporation, a provider of communications services to rural areas and small and medium-sized towns and cities, will be dedicating the months of September and October to raise funds to improve the technology at schools. The company’s new program, “Let’s Chalk Up A Cause,” is the next phase of Frontier’s recent “Great Donate – Let’s Talk Up A Cause,” campaign which previously was a fundraiser for local relief agencies. So, this go-around, it seems as if the company has education in mind. Maggie Wilderotter, chairman and CEO of Frontier, explained that in the program Frontier will donate $25 to any participating local school every time a residential or commercial customer signs up for Frontier High Speed Internet. In order to raise funds, faculty and students will have flyers to bring home and give out to the community. Schools that will receive the funds gathered by this program will range from pre-K, elementary, middle school, high school to a college or university, both public or private. “We hope to donate as much money as possible to schools so that students and teachers don’t bear the burden of making ends meet in the classroom,” Wilderotter said. “Frontier is a local company with deep roots in the communities we serve, and we want to continue to help during these challenging economic times.” Recently, Frontier submitted a request of $55 million for a broadband stimulus program in Western Virginia. With broadband stimulus being essential to the economic well being, Frontier seems to be at the forefront of improving the technology industry for rural America in many different sectors.
