Westminster College Deploys Toshiba's Strata VOIP Business Telephone System

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri has reportedly deployed Toshiba’s Strata CIX1200 VOIP business telephone system along with SIP Trunking from Twist Networks in its campus.

Serving nearly 1,000 students, the Westminster College is a private college focused on liberal arts.
According to Scott Lowe, CIO of Westminster College, the college was in need of a reliable, low-maintenance, low-cost system with advanced telephony capabilities.
In this regard, Robert Hymes, president of Communications Technologies Inc. recommended the Toshiba (News - Alert) Strata CIX IP business telephone system to the college. Communications Technologies Inc. is an authorized Toshiba dealer.
CTI (News - Alert) installed the Strata CIX1200 IP business telephone system with a remote fiber cabinet in Westminster College’s campus with the support of more than 1,000 ports spread across 28 buildings on campus.
According to Toshiba, its Strata CIX 1200 is a telephone system that unifies, coordinates, as well as streamlines all the communications needs. It provides functionalities such as voice mail, auto attendant, Unified Messaging, automatic call distribution, Voice Over Internet Protocol, Strata Net multiple system networking and FeatureFlex adaptability/customization tools.
CTI installed a mix of Toshiba IP desk telephones, digital and analog, Toshiba SoftIPT Softphones, and SIP Trunking from Twist Networks, Inc. on the college campus. Twist Networks is a Toshiba-certified SIP trunk provider.
The Toshiba IP desk telephones and SoftIPT softphones can work on a mobile device – laptop computer or PDA, thereby helping college’s remote and mobile workers to be always in touch by getting access to their office telephone extensions from home or anywhere else.
Officials at Toshiba said that the company’s attendant consoles are used on the campus for operator stations, while Ultimate Call Accounting is used to keep track of calls, agent status, and for managing over 20,000 incoming calls each month. Additionally, the system also includes Toshiba’s Strata ACD Call Center Solution for fund-raising and admissions purposes.

Moreover, Toshiba’s Strata Media Application Server allows multiple applications to reside on a single server, thus saving costs and reducing maintenance requirements for the college. The college’s Strata ACD Call Center Solution, Network eManager remote administration and Stratagy Voice Processing solutions – all run on Strata Media Application Server.
The SIP Trunking from Twist Networks helps in replacing legacy long distance services at lower costs. Now, the college has 20 unlimited SIP Trunking channels for outbound calls, covering all of the United States and Canada.
Officials at Westminster College said that it has opted for Toshiba’s seven-year manufacturer’s warranty, and bundled it with the lease. This bundling of lease, warranty and service agreements together enabled the college to pay one monthly bill for the estimated seven-year life of the system. In addition, Toshiba’s Strata CIX IP business telephone system with Stratagy voice processing solutions is projected to save the college over $170,000, over seven years time.
