Haiku Learning, a cloud-based learning management system for K-12 students and teachers, has introduced its new Windows 8 Haiku Learning Platform App, which is slated for launch on June 24 next week. Haiku worked closely with Microsoft (News - Alert) for this release, as the company has several high-profile schools now running the Learning Platform on Windows 8.
According to Haiku Learning CEO Bryan Falcon, the app is essentially a student planner that provides seamless access to class content, while allowing students to hand in homework and track goals. Of course, since the new Learning Platform App was designed specifically for Windows 8, it also sports a style that matches the rest of the operating system — specifically that of the new Start Screen.
“Windows 8 features a beautiful user interface. We want students and teachers to experience the most elegant user experience that our platform and Windows 8 can offer together,” said Falcon in a statement.
Meanwhile, the increasing number of schools implementing tablet or laptop one-to-one programs means that Haiku Learning can expand its reach with this app.
“We're excited to support student learning with Haiku Learning’s commitment to build on the Microsoft technology platform," said Anthony Salcito, vice president of WW Education at Microsoft Corp. "Haiku has an important vision that supports our focus to have a positive impact on student learning, and our education vision of anytime anywhere learning for all.”
The Windows 8 Haiku Learning Platform App is to be made available via the Microsoft Store, making it the first high-profile learning platform made available to do so, according to Falcon. However, it's unclear if this means the app supports ARM (News - Alert)-based Windows RT.
Considering the lack of interest in the Microsoft Surface RT, it doesn't seem likely that many schools will opt for the tablet over the more capable Surface Pro, but that doesn't necessarily mean Haiku would neglect the platform. This will likely be cleared up by June 24, though.
