COPsync911 Emergency Alert Service Helps Protect Schools

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

COPsync, the operator of one of the nation’s largest law enforcement real-time, in-vehicle information sharing, communication and data interoperability networks, has unveiled the COPsync911 emergency alert service designed to protect students by equipping schools with instant access to local law enforcement offices and local emergency agencies with a mere push of a button.

Ronald A. Woessner, COPsync CEO remarked, “COPsync911 arms educators with technology, not guns. The service uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to instantaneously locate and silently send a distress alert from the school to the nearest patrol vehicles and agencies on the COPsync Network.”

According to company officials, the COPsync911 is a real-time alert system to increase the level of security for schools and municipal buildings that is capable of immediately connecting the staff of a building under potential threat with the five officers closest to the building’s location.

Recently protecting children in schools and adjacent premises from uncontrollable violence has taken center stage as the national debate. COPsync believes that communities that find the optimal balance of protecting children with minimal use of armed personnel are positioned to be leaders in solving the nation’s problem.

With COPsync911, once the alert is sent, a ‘chat room’ is established among the school, the responding patrol vehicles and the local law enforcement dispatch office. Patrol officers will able to learn about the nature and severity of the threat from the school through the form of a silent communication. The chat room also includes a link to a diagram of the school.

Shane Rapp, the company's president and cofounder said, “The COPsync system was originally developed with the objective of enhancing officer safety and increasing situational awareness among officers. COPsync911 is a natural extension of the company's core technology and objectives. It will significantly reduce officer response times in school crisis situations, when seconds count most, and will provide responding law enforcement officers with detailed information about the nature and location of the threat. Our objective is to protect as many campuses, government buildings and businesses in as short a time as possible.”
