IPEVO Turns iPads into Whiteboards

Gone are the days of chalk, chalkboards and erasers, as they have been replaced by whiteboards and erasable markers. IPEVO (News - Alert) is taking things to the next level by creating a digital whiteboard that can be used on an Apple iPad – and, to make it even more enticing, delivering it as a free application users can download from the App Store.

The IPEVO Whiteboard app works with the new IPEVO WS-01 Wireless Station, developed for the Apple (News - Alert) iPad. There are two options of USB document cameras by IPEVO – the Ziggi and the Point 2 View.

The operation for the whiteboard is designed to be very easy, even for the novice user.

The USB camera is plugged into the WS-01 wireless device, and once the connection is made, a visual of what can be seen through the camera is shown on the iPad. In a classroom situation, a projector with a VGA connection or a wireless Apple television will be needed, in order for the class to see what is being shown.

The IPEVO Whiteboard app comes with various functions and tools to allow the user to draw and make notations on the images coming from the camera. The user will also be able to create more than whiteboards—they’ll develop boards of various colors to allow for images to be seen more clearly. Multiple boards can be created and switched between easily throughout a presentation.

Tools are available to be used for the width of the lines being drawn, colors are able to be chosen, and an eraser function is available for changes and corrections as well.

Royce Hong (News - Alert), chief executive officer and head of design for IPEVO, called it the “easiest and most straightforward way to turn iPad into an interactive whiteboard for education,” in a recent statement.  “It's designed to work seamlessly with the new WS-01 Wireless Station and our document cameras,” he added, holding that this “complete solution” provides teachers and presenters “a way to better explain and interact with their material through annotation,” aiding the learning process.
