With them, the university’s law students can get an improved and more interactive learning experience.
When HKU added a new Centennial Campus, the Faculty of Law took the opportunity to examine the technology it was using and see how it could be improved. Naturally, it determined that collaboration technologies such as video could provide for a more engaging and educational environment, so it began looking for a video conferencing solution that could meet its needs.
In the end, it chose Polycom. HKU installed RealPresence video solutions to provide secure HD video collaboration in classrooms and lecture halls, as well as communicate with legal professionals from nearly anywhere in the world.
The video solutions are also used for simulated court proceedings, allowing students to receive feedback immediately.
The school opted for Polycom’s RealPresence Room Solutions HDX 8000 and EagleEye Director cameras, providing automatic focus on the speakers, with HDX Ceiling Microphones for clear audio coverage.
It’s all powered by the RealPresence Platform, so the video is delivered instantly and seamlessly.
“Polycom’s vision of collaborative education includes bridging teachers, instructors, students and content providers around the world to enhance and improve the learning experience,” said Michael Alp, president of Polycom Asia Pacific. “Through our partnership with HKU, students and academics are experiencing greater benefits through real-time visual interactions. I am delighted that Polycom is playing such as a vital role in nurturing talent from the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law for the future good of society.”
Polycom’s video collaboration solutions have allowed many students to get an even better education through video, and the University of Hong Kong has made a great choice in deploying them. The students now have access to new ways to learn from experts around the world, and the faculty is finding it useful as well.
This is working out nicely for Polycom and HKU, as it will for any other universities that deploy video.
