Spring always brings with it a whiff of fresh air and that’s exactly what’s blowing right across the University of Wisconsin -Stout (UW-Stout) campus. Officials at the university believe that mobility is key for students, and addressed it with a new mobile app that ‘knows everything’ that’s going on.
Smartphone users can now apparently revel in the luxury of knowing ‘what’s cooking’ on the campus from just about anywhere and at anytime, thanks to a free, new mobile app.
“The world is going mobile, touch devices are saturating the marketplace, and we wanted to better serve our students,” observed Barbara Button, UW-Stout Web coordinator, commenting on the introduction of the new mobile app.
Developed by a UW-Stout committee and the AT&T (News - Alert) Campus Guide, the mobile app was intended to replace a mobile site that was included when the university’s website was redesigned.
“During our website redesign process, we were told we needed a mobile app for the campus, even though we had developed a mobile website as part of that project,” said Kay Schnur, director of enterprise information systems.
It was then that the AT&T Campus Guide app provided UW-Stout with a solution that was agile and could grow with changes.
“This mobile initiative is a great example of our valuable collaboration with Wisconsin’s universities, and the UW-Stout community will get to experience the benefits at the moment they download the app to their phones,” said Scott VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin.
The app reportedly has something of interest for everyone. The bus tracker, laundry, events and course information will probably be a hit with students, while the faculty and staff will find the events, directory search and bus tracker rather useful. And, for the public and prospective students, the admissions, events, calendar and maps features will prove interesting.
Currently, the app is available for just smartphones, but AT&T Campus Guide plans to add more platforms and more features as the mobile app develops.
“UW-Stout has once again shown it is a technology leader by delivering a comprehensive and easy-to-use app that will be a hit, both on campus and off,” noted Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen.
