Meru Networks Unveils Meru Education-Grade Wireless Platform
By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor
Meru Networks (News - Alert) has unveiled its latest Meru Education-Grade (MEG) wireless platform. Regardless of the challenges faced in the “bring your own device” (BYOD) movement, campus IT departments are required to provide continuous learning-vital applications capable of running across a sturdy Wi-Fi network, as part of their academic objectives.
The latest MEG platform, which includes Meru’s BYOD provisioning and guest management software, along with its innovative virtualized wireless LAN offerings, is ideal for campus IT departments.
In a statement, Sarosh Vesuna, VP and GM, Education Business Unit, Meru Networks said, “According to Gartner (News - Alert), Wi-Fi-enabled devices will grow from less than 1 billion units in 2010 to more than 3 billion in 2015. A large number of these devices end up on university campuses. This growth is having a major impact on higher education IT professionals who are tasked with ensuring that wireless devices brought onto campus are on boarded predictably and securely, regardless of the capacity crunch these devices place on the university’s Wi-Fi networks. The Meru Education-Grade wireless platform is designed to mitigate the impact of BYOD while enabling ‘uninterrupted learning’ for the entire university population.”
Users demand a dependable connection to Wi-Fi on campus at any time of the day or night. Even when the usage hits the highest point, users expect uninterrupted connection as they move about the campus. Campuses depend on their Wi-Fi network to assist huge capacity rollouts, which are easy to implement, administer and manage.
Universities, however, are challenged due to unwieldy on-boarding, unlimited login times for students, dropped connections, and bad quality roaming, depriving students of uninterrupted learning.
The MEG wireless platform has been designed using Meru’s unique single channel architecture. The platform allows universities to quickly on-board students using Meru’s Smart Connect and Guest Connect, which offers computerized protected BYOD client provisioning and flexible guest management. The platform allows mobile devices on the campus to connect in a dependable manner with the help of Meru’s wide-ranging portfolio of Wi-Fi access points, wireless controllers and network management software.
The platform allows universities to implement flipped classrooms, mixed learning settings and other latest teaching and learning techniques capable of working on mobile devices, creating more effective avenues for learning.
