According to new research by the Leading Education by Advancing Digital Commission, access to the Internet is crucial for children’s ability to learn as best they can. Based on the conclusions of LEAD’s study, the pressure is rising for teachers and parents to do their best and ensure that children are able to access the Internet and other technologies for the sake of their educations.
The parents and teachers in question seem to be amenable to the idea of investing in devices like computers and tablets that can easily reach the net for research and game-related learning. In what many perceive to be the best possible climate for education, the Internet plays a huge role.
The majority of teachers polled for LEAD’s research believe that innovative use of technology would be better in the long run for students than relying on printed texts alone for educational purposes. However, that same whopping percent does not feel sufficiently trained in the technologies in question to be able to assist the student with their learning. With parents and teachers in agreement that access to high speed internet is key for children grades K-12 when it comes to research and creativity in the classroom, it will be difficult for schools to look the other way.
These findings may have a massive impact on the way that schools put their budgets to use, if it turns out that having access to the Internet is, at the end of the day, a huge boon to students. The very makeup of the American classroom may be changing drastically if these results are to be put into effect.
The US will join other countries whose reliance on technology in the classroom far outpaces America’s, and perhaps for the better. Whatever the results in the short term, researchers are dedicated to finding better ways to educate children.
