University Student Launches Trading Platform for Textbooks

By Shankar Pandiath, TMCnet Contributor

Jebidiah Light, a student at Valdosta State University, has successfully shaped an online textbook trading platform, where college and university students can effortlessly purchase and sell their secondhand books.

In association with his former classmate, Piyush Parate, from the University of Georgia, Light has launched Jebbles.com, where students from across the country can identify textbooks for sale pertaining to their line of study.

Founded and launched in 2011, Jebbles.com is a free textbooks trading platform, where college and university students can effortlessly buy or sell their textbooks. The site works like Craigslist, where students can access the information on the books they intend to purchase by browsing the subject catalogue, neatly organized on the website. Books for sale can be posted under their specific categories.

However, Jebbles.com is localized and students will be able to purchase books supported by their respective university or college, only. Much like Craigslist, anonymity of the trader is maintained, and an e-mail expressing the interest of a potential buyer is sent to the seller.

The team of Light and Parate are now revamping the website, making it RSS feed-friendly.

“From the technological viewpoint, we like to ensure that the website is simple and competent. The overhaul will guarantee that it is attuned with the latest technology,” said Piyush Parate. “By modifying the framework, in the future we can conveniently perform upgrades and add external modules.”

Today, Jebbles.com is proud to announce that it has over 500 registered members, and the numbers are rapidly increasing. The site is FREE for students and will continue to be in its journey.

If students want to make suggestions on how to improve the services, there’s a dedicated space for proposal submissions.

Dr. L. Wayne Plumly, Dean, Langdale College of Business Administration, said industrialists are the economy’s backbone and render large chunks of employment opportunities. It is highly motivating when a student from your campus takes initiative with his brilliant, innovative idea, and moves forward while keeping in view the pitfalls.

Rebecca Zimler, VSU biology student, is heading the marketing of the product. Since 2011, she has been actively involved with Light to promote Jebbles.com through social and print media.

Jebidiah Light presently is pursuing international business and economics at the Langdale College of Business Administration. His desire to practice international corporate law encourages him to focus on law school after he graduates.
