Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Selects Mobile Commons

Texting is universally recognized as the preferred mode of communication for young adults. According to surveys, the typical American teen sends 60 texts per day. Mobile Commons' pioneering platform lets companies to develop innovative mobile messaging campaigns to engage teens (and adults) in a new way.


Recently, Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing joined hands with Mobile Commons to provide young adult readers and fans an exciting new mobile program. Simon & Schuster will introduce the program for fans of young adult literature at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Offering readers the opportunity to win prizes during the convention and to continue communicating with authors via text long after Comic-Con ends, the company will provide a text-based sweepstakes, the company stated in a press release.

Also, readers and fans will have the chance to react directly to Scott Westerfeld, the New York Times bestselling author, with information about themselves or their thoughts on characters and content, the company said.

“Simon & Schuster is revolutionizing how authors communicate with their fans," said Jed Alpert, CEO and co-founder of Mobile Commons. "We know how great the opportunity is for brands to establish effective relationships with their customers via text messaging. This program will offer young adults an unprecedented connection with their favorite authors--and provide Simon & Schuster with the metrics to learn more about their most avid customers.”

Recently, the company partnered with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to offer the text messaging ability of MTA Bus Time -- the MTA’s new public bus tracking system that lets commuters on more than 50 New York City bus routes to track real-time bus locations on the Internet. They can do this with smart phones and by text message. Mobile Commons’ platform lets riders to receive live GPS data regarding the location of their bus via text message.
