Turning Technologies Collaborates with Educational Measures on Polling Solution

By Deborah Hirsch, TMCnet Contributor

Turning Technologies, a source of response technology products, has partnered with Educational Measures, a provider of data management and event solutions for the healthcare market, to let speakers interact directly with participants for polling at events.

Under the partnership, Turning’s polling software will be integrated with Educational Measure’s EducationalTrak data management solution, so session results can now be uploaded into EducationalTrak for immediate assessment.

“Integration with Educational Measures systems helps our clients enhance reporting capabilities,” said Mike Broderick, Turning Technologies CEO. “The combination of instant data collection with our TurningPoint polling software and the analysis capabilities of EducationalTrak offers more detailed assessment.”

Turning Technologies’ response solutions allow speakers to ask participants interactive assessment questions. TurningPoint directly integrates with PowerPoint for polling during presentations and applications using a floating toolbar and allows users to pace themselves.

“Turning Technologies’ products collect data in an interactive setting,” said Marc Crawford, Educational Measures president. “By designing EducationalTrak to work with the TurningPoint polling software, we can deliver powerful reports that take full advantage of information collected.”

Participants reportedly answer questions with handheld ResponseCard keypads that transmit responses to a radio frequency USB receiver. Turning’s ResponseWare app also allows participants to answer questions with any Web-connected device, with results instantly displayed on screen and available in detailed reports or for further analysis with LMS or data management solutions.

Teachers can use the technology to see whether students are learning material, all through a handheld device. In what’s called “active response through student response,” Turning’s technology allows teachers to instantly track students’ quiz or test results to get an idea of how well students have absorbed the lesson.

Interactive Voice Response Technology (IVR) is slightly different from Turning Technologies’ solutions, but it works along the same idea. A hospital which used IVR technology with additional telemonitoring tools reduced 30-day readmissions by 44 percent, compared to a control group of patients that did not use the technology, according to a study, as reported by Nicole Lewis.
