Allot Communications Releases 'Allot Pinball' Educational Mobile Game

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Allot Communications (News - Alert) has released a new educational mobile game from Ltd called “Allot Pinball.” The game breaks down the complexities of value-based data pricing plans for subscribers and operators. Allot offers both service optimization and revenue generation solutions for global providers of fixed and mobile broadband services.

Allot Communications recognized the need for educating operators keen on migrating from unlimited and volume-based pricing plans to customized offering of value-based plans. Allot Pinball was designed to enable easy and seamless migration of pricing plans for operators as it breaks down complex concepts of mobile data pricing. Leveraging Allot Pinball, becoming a mobile operator becomes easy as does pricing for Over-the-Top (OTT) traffic, and ensuring that the Quality of Experience (QoE) to subscribers is maintained at all times.

In a release, Monica Paolini, Founder and President, Senza Fili Consulting, said, "While only small percentages of subscribers are affected by traffic caps, many more think they are. In fact, most subscribers do not know how much data they are using and to avoid additional charges or to be left without allowance they will reduce their data consumption. Of course having subscribers constantly worried as to whether they can afford to watch a YouTube (News - Alert) video or post a photo is not good for business. It reduces the value subscribers attach to the service."

While playing Allot Pinball, scores earned are a combination of the QoE and revenue earned per application by the mobile operator. Each OTT application, come with a different level of QoE and revenue scoring combination.

The game has been designed with different levels representative of the value-based charging plan as offered by a mobile operator. The size of the application icon as well as scores earned at each level keep changing.

Andrei Elefant, Allot's Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, said, "The move away from 'so-called unlimited' data plans towards usage and value based plans is well under way. Allot Service Gateway (News - Alert) combined with inline services such as ChargeSmart provides the perfect vehicle for operators to evolve their charging models. In addition to showcasing Allot Service Gateway at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2012 (2B53), we will be hosting the inaugural Allot Pinball Challenge, drop by if you think you can beat my score."
