Ericom Software, a global provider of application access and desktop virtualization solutions, announced that the University of Connecticut (Uconn) is piloting Ericom AccessNow for VMware View after testing the product.
Recently, Ericom Software announced the beta version of Ericom AccessNow, the market's first pure HTML client providing access to applications and desktops running on Windows Terminal Services / RDS / VDI platforms.
As part of the pilot program in the fall of 2011, UConn will leverage AccessNow to give students access to university resources, Microsoft (News - Alert) applications and virtual desktops, from dorm rooms and access points both on and off campus.
Access would be supported from laptops, netbooks, Chromebooks, iPads and other devices running HTML5 supported browsers, utilizing Ericom's AccessNow for VMware View.
Company officials claim that Ericom's AccessNow for VMware View is the first VDI solution to work natively with Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, other browsers with HTML5 and WebSocket support, and Chromebooks. The solution does not require Java, Flash, Silverlight or any other underlying technology.
“Our objective is to provide students with access to software and library resources from any location,” said Tony Molloy, IT manager for the University of Connecticut Libraries, in a statement.
“We tested Ericom AccessNow to access VMware View virtual desktops through a Chrome browser,” Molloy added. “AccessNow was easy to install, and the combined AccessNow and VMware View solution will allow students to access virtual desktops with no client software to install or manage.”
Ericom AccessNow for VMware View runs within a HTML5 compatible Web browser, without any software installation on the end-user device. It enables seamless access to VMware View virtual desktops.
“Since launching AccessNow for VMware View we are receiving a lot of favorable feedback from the market,” said Brian Berns, president and COO, Ericom Software.
“There has been a high level of interest in this innovative product from both VMware customers and partners.”
