The fear of budget cuts is haunting the nation’s school districts. Cuts have challenged school IT directors to come up with various ways to reduce operational costs and streamline their delivery methods and processes. One of them, the Orange (News - Alert) County Public School District (OCPS), has been able to meet and beat the challenge.
OCPS has tied up with United Data Technologies' for its 15,000 sq. ft-configuration -center. This Orlando-based facility help provide the OCPS and many other school districts with just-in-time delivery of their IT assets; zero threat of equipment theft; and a zero failure rate for installments. Over the past three years, United Data Technologies (UDT) has helped OCPS to enjoy substantial costs savings.
"UDT helped us solve one of our biggest challenges: getting new schools opened on time, effectively and within a very short timeframe," states OCPS IT Director Hermes Mendez, in a statement. "Today each unit is delivered just in time, in perfect working order, with accurate district imaging, and with security and software applications already pre-loaded. Yet, all these services didn't cost us a penny more beyond the confines of our existing contract."
Apart from the above-mentioned benefits, UDT also engineers a green IT component to their services by limiting packaging, shipping and significantly improving recycling.
"Our district personnel no longer have to spend weeks onsite supervising installations or worrying about finding secure storage for the equipment," said Thomas McNabb, the district's Assistant Director of IT, in a statement. "We can now deploy a large school in less than a day. If we have to change priorities or schedules, UDT changes right along with us." Mendez states: "The value UDT has brought us in time and cost savings is just tremendous."
"Our relationship with UDT is a true strategic partnership and goes beyond the typical client/vendor relationship," said Mendez. "They always come to us armed with solutions to our problems. They do whatever it takes to get the job done when other firms couldn't or wouldn't."
