Avaya, a dealer in enterprise communications systems, announced that the inventor of Ethernet, Robert M. Metcalfe, enabled remote participants to attend his first lecture as a professor of innovation at the University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering utilizing Avaya (News - Alert) web.alive.
Both live and remote attendees listened to the lecture “Enernet: Internet Lessons for Solving Energy” that was delivered to them via the Avaya web.alive collaboration environment on, Jan. 20.
Avaya explained that for many business activities, being face-to-face is important. Often meetings, sales opportunities, customer support and training simply need to be carried out in person. But participants to those meetings are often disrupted by issues such as delays, scheduling conflicts, vacations, illness and more. Also, costs to conduct face-to-face meetings are also very high.
In order to overcome these issues, Avaya claimed that it designed web.alive, an online, 3D, immersive virtual conferencing and collaboration environment that lets users communicate with others as though they were face-to-face.
Avaya web.alive supports enterprise-wide collaboration, learning and training, and collaborative marketing. web.alive expands on traditional methods of collaboration, i.e. audio, video and Web conferencing, to provide an engaging, interactive and intuitive environment that meets the requirements of users in any size business.
Commenting on the event, Metcalfe stated that the internet has given the ability to collaborate across an “innovation infrastructure” through which one can brainstorm and excavate for solutions to providing cheap, sustainable energy.
“Avaya web.alive is a perfect example of the kind of innovative technology that can support these efforts and reduce energy consumption at the same time,” he said.
In a press release, officials with Avaya asserted that by revolutionizing both the audio and visual experience with 3-D spatial audio and video game graphics technology, Avaya web.alive makes business collaboration across broad geographies and organizations entertaining, productive and highly economical. This secure, enterprise-class virtual environment makes it easy, safe and fun to enable ad-hoc or scheduled collaboration.
