University of Central Florida Selects Oracle Software and Hardware

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The University of Central Florida (UCF) has selected Oracle software and hardware to help streamline academic administration and to manage growth.

UCF was looking for a powerful, scalable and reliable IT infrastructure to support its continued growth as the nation's second-largest university. The university implemented Oracle's (News - Alert) PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1, PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools 8.50, and Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions running on Oracle Database 11g on Oracle's Sun servers and storage. Now, the UCF solution supports a wide-array of administrative processes.

Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise applications are designed to address the most complex business requirements. They provide comprehensive business and industry solutions. Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools 8.51 builds on the major enhancements in release 8.50.

“The combination of Oracle software and hardware provides us with an innovative platform that significantly streamlines our administrative processes so students can spend more time learning and less time standing in line filling out paperwork," said Bob Yanckello, CTO of University of Central Florida, in a press release. "Oracle's hardware provides the performance and scalability needed to ensure that students, faculty and staff have access to the system even during the most severe traffic spikes.”

The UCF system is able to provide access to more than 50,000 students, faculty and staff with the unparalleled reliability, availability and scalability of the Sun SPARC servers with Oracle Solaris. The StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System and StorageTek 2540 Array are two critical components of the data protection architecture, the company has announced. Also, UCF has reduced annual maintenance costs by more than $120,000 with Oracle's Sun hardware.

In April 2010, Oracle announced that the company’s Social Services Suite provides social service agencies with a complete, open and integrated platform for eligibility and case management to simplify eligibility determination increase caseworker efficiency and improve program effectiveness. The Social Services Suite also includes updated versions of Oracle’s Siebel CRM Public Sector 8.2 and Oracle Policy Automation 10, the company announced in a press release.
