Raytheon (News - Alert) Company, a provider of technology solutions in defense, homeland security and other government markets globally, has announced to launch a new MathMovesU website on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the company’s signature MathMovesU program. With the new expanded resource, middle school students, parents, educators and others interested in science, technology, engineering and math or ‘STEM’ education excellence will get an interactive online destination. The website has been launched as a part of the program initiated by Raytheon that has enabled over 1 million U.S. middle school students to enjoy the adventures offered by math and science.
MathMovesU program by Raytheon had been introduced on the 10th of November, 2005, and has awarded over $4 million to students, teachers and schools across the United States till now. This funding includes scholarships and grants offered to over 1,300 individuals in the program, while more than 500 hundred schools have benefited from matching grants. The company and its employees have also contributed over $26 million to educational institutions in the country since the MathMovesU program was initiated, through Raytheon’s matching gifts program.
The MathMovesU Middle School Scholarships and Grants program encourages the middle school students to create multimedia presentations that illustrate the importance of math in their daily lives, and answer the question ‘How does MATH put the action in your passion?.’ Camperships or scholarships worth $1,000 are awarded to the winning students, while the schools receive matching grants of $1,000 for math-related programs. Around 800 students across the United States have been awarded grants and scholarships under this program since the year 2005.
In the words of William H. Swanson, chairman and chief executive officer of Raytheon Company, the company launched MathMovesU with the goal of making math and science exciting to students, which helps them make the connection between studying math and science today and having exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics tomorrow. Swanson continued that over the last five years, Raytheon’s MathMovesU program has been expanded to include several innovative, experiential initiatives and partnerships.
The newly launched website of MathMovesU serves as a central repository for all elements of the MathMovesU program, and provides a closer look into Raytheon’s STEM initiatives and support for STEM education. Apart from offering a wide range of interactive games and activities for middle school students that engage them in math and show its relation to real-world applications, the portal provides extensive resources such as scholarship and matching grants information for parents, teachers and schools, in addition to activities to further extend classroom learning.
