Pharm-Olam International (POI) has picked a solution from Taridium to upgrade its legacy PBX system to VoIP.

POI previously worked with a local vendor to plan, develop and deploy a VoIP system for their PBX (News - Alert). However, the vendor in that case failed to achieve the desired results.

“It was a total disaster,” said R. Michael Shassere, POI global director of IT, expressing his disappointment with the old system. “The system crashed virtually every day, voice quality was terrible, remote staff had connectivity issues, and the vendor had spent over six months trying to bring the system live in the UK office.”

It was an easy task for Taridium (News - Alert) to fix the VoIP system at POI’s U.K. office. The system was upgraded and became operational within a few days. Company executives are now happy with the performance of the Taridium solution.

“We were elated,” Shassere said. “Taridium has now installed its system in several of our worldwide sites so far, and we will have them do all the sites as time permits. We could not be happier.”

Taridium is a VoIP solution providers. Its offerings include managed VoIP for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and high-capacity telephony for large enterprises. it also offer VoIP solutions for telecom service providers. Taridium’s solutions are based on open standards, resulting in a positive price-to-performance ratio.

Taridium faced two challenges solving POI’s problems. The first hurdle was to implement a better VoIP system that would yield good voice quality and better connectivity, which the earlier vendor had failed to provide. Second, the company was assigned the task of repairing problems created by the improper use of technology. Taridium succeeded in both these endeavors.

POI is a multinational contract research organization based in Houston, Texas. It offers a comprehensive clinical research services for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. Adopting VoIP will give the company a competitive edge in research projects completed at offices in 22 countries.
