SoonR has closed a $9.5 million Series B investment led by Cisco (News - Alert), according to an announcement today. The intention of the move is to help the company expand its mobile platform, as well as advance its partner-driven distribution strategy. Also participating were previous investors Intel Capital (News - Alert) and Clearstone Venture Partners, bringing total investment in the two-year old company to $15.5 million.
“Cisco was among the first to recognize that a massive convergence between the desktop and mobile worlds was on the horizon, and that next-generation solutions were needed to advance this trend,” said SoonR CEO Patrick McVeigh (News - Alert). “We both believe that crucial business documents will need to be accessible and actionable from the ‘cloud’, or the layer of network intelligence, through a myriad of Internet-connected devices. Their vision matches ours and their focused and straight-forward decision making process allows them to move quickly in helping young companies succeed. We could not ask for a better strategic partner.”
By using SoonR, users can access, back up and share desktop files on the go, using their mobile phone or any other Internet-enabled device. Documents appear as they would on a computer screen—even email can be accessed. Data is continuously backed up.
SoonR’s partners over the past six months have included TeliaSonera and QuickOffice (News - Alert), as well as other international carriers. The company has also expanded its management team, and recently announced the appointment of Jonathan Wood, as the new SVP of worldwide sales and operations out of London.
Designed to provide mobile professionals with comprehensive, integrated mobile services, SoonR’s partner-driven distribution strategy offers major carriers a customizable, branded and premium service.
