BRIEF: SUV strikes toddler at 7-Eleven store
Feb 27, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Police say a 3-year-old boy suffered road rash to his arms and face after he was struck by a Hummer at a 7-Eleven Tuesday afternoon in the 2400 block of Kermit Highway.
Lt. Pete Marquez said a doctor told police later that it appeared the boy would be OK.
The boy ran from his grandpa, police said, and was hit by the gas pumps of the convenience store at 2:20 p.m. The grandpa could be seen crying at the scene and said to a woman: "One second. I just looked off for one second."
The female driver of the Hummer also appeared distraught. No citations were reported Tuesday. Police declined to identify the boy because he is a minor.
The accident followed an earlier wreck that happened when police believe a woman suffered from a seizure inside her Saturn SUV and veered into the eastbound lane of University Boulevard near Dixie Boulevard, striking the passenger's side door of a Mazda Z. Neither driver suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident, police said. But the woman driving the Saturn SUV was taken to the hospital.
