Melissa (Mead) Clough, M.D. Offers Surgical Services Using da Vinci Robotics, Providing Gynecological Patients With a Minimally-Invasive Surgical Option

Melissa (Mead) Clough, M.D., an obstetrics and gynecology physician
and surgeon with a private practice in Milford, MA, today announced
she offers patients a minimally-invasive surgical option using the da
Vinci robotically-assisted surgical system. Dr. Clough is the first
robotically trained gynecologic surgeon in the Milford region and
among the few surgeons in metrowest Boston who are taking the lead in
using the da Vinci robotic technique for surgical procedures.
The da Vinci robotic surgical system is used in a wide range of
procedures, such as cardiac, thoracic and urological procedures as
well as gynecologic procedures. Dr. Clough performs da Vinci robotic
gynecologic procedures at Milford Regional Medical Center and at St.
Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boston, MA.
Dr. Clough uses the da Vinci robotic surgical system for gynecologic
procedures such as hysterectomies, ovarian cystectomies and treatment
of endometriosis, among others. The da Vinci system's 3-D surgical
view allows for greater access, precision and control than other
minimally invasive approaches such as two-dimensional laparoscopy,
enabling superior visualization of tissue planes and target anatomy.
This expands the pool of patients who can benefit from
minimally-invasive surgery to include patients with complex
conditions such as high BMI, previous surgeries, large fibroids,
chronic pelvic pain, fertility issues or severe endometriosis.
Use of the da Vinci robotic surgical technique also allows for
improved outcomes that are beneficial to the patients, such as
minimal blood loss and tissue damage, smaller incisions, less scar
tissue, decreased length of hospital stay and recovery time,
diminished post-operative pain, and a faster return to normal
activities.

An OB/GYN physician and surgeon for 20 years, Dr. Clough received
comprehensive training in the da Vinci robotically-assisted surgical
system at St. Elizabeth's and, with the recent acquisition of the da
Vinci surgical system at Milford Regional Medical Center, is now
performing the robotic gynecological surgical services at the two
locations.

certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a
Fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
She earned her medical degree from the Boston University School of
Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at
the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. She
has a private OB-GYN practice, "Caring for Women," opened in 1999 and
located in Milford. Prior to studying medicine, Dr. Clough completed
