Feb 20, 2013 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Six Robeson High School students are accused beating up a 16-year-old classmate in the hallway of the school in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
The students, all boys between the ages of 14 and 17, were each charged with one count of misdemeanor battery, police said. Their names are not being released because they are juveniles.
The fight started in a first-floor hallway outside the gym of Robeson at 6835 South Normal Blvd. shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the police report. The boys punched and kicked the victim, briefly knocking him unconscious, according to the report.
He suffered a broken nose, multiple cuts, bruises and scratches on his face and neck. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in good condition, the report stated.
Before the fight, the victim had told a girl to leave him alone. After she left, she approached a group of boys and told them what he said, the report said.
The six boys are self-admitted gang members, according to the report, which didn't list any gang affiliation for the victim.
