Bob's Discount Furniture Celebrates the Grand Opening Of Two New D.C.-Area Stores by Donating More Than $25,000 to Local Schools
MANCHESTER, Conn. --(Business Wire)--
Discount Furniture today announced it will contribute a total of
$25,500 to 15 Washington, D.C.-area schools to celebrate the grand
openings of two new retail furniture stores, in Fairfax, Va., and
Waldorf, Md. The new stores - the fourth and fifth D.C.-area locations
opened by Bob's since 2011 - demonstrate the company's continued
interest in serving the nation's capital, and are expected to add more
than 50 jobs to the local economy.
Colleen Wood, area manager for Bob's mid-Atlantic region, is the acting
store manager for Bob's new 35,489-square-foot Fairfax store in the
Greenbriar Shopping Center at 13055A Lee Jackson Memorial Highway.
Maurice McKisset, who previously managed the company's Hyattsville, Md.,
store, will manage the new 30,103-square-foot Waldorf store, located at
3015 Festival Way.
Grand opening celebrations for each store will start at 9:45 a.m. on
Thursday, Feb. 14. Company President and co-founder Bob Kaufman will
attend the Waldorf store ribbon cutting. Cathy Poulin, the company's
public relations director, will participate in the ribbon cutting at the
Fairfax store. Complimentary refreshments from the stores' cafes will be
served, while children's entertainment will include balloons and face
painting. Grand opening festivities will extend through the weekend at
both new store locations.
"We're thrilled to expand our presence in the D.C. Metro area," said
Kaufman. "Especially in today's economy, people here really appreciate
our approach of offering values on fashionable, high-quality furniture
with no gimmicks, and the same low prices every day."
With the two new locations, Bob's Discount Furniture now has 45 stores
in nine states (Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Virginia). The company
opened three other D.C.-area locations during 2011, in Hyattsville and
Rockville, Md., and Falls Church, Va.
To show its commitment to the new stores' communities, Bob's will
pesent checks totaling $25,500 to 15 local schools during the grand
openings. These funds are made possible by customer donations to
collection jars located in the cafes found in every Bob's store, which
offer free refreshments (including gourmet coffee and fresh-baked
cookies) to all Bob's shoppers.
Two schools selected by their respective town councils, Waldorf's
Westlake High School and Fairfax's Greenbriar West Elementary School,
will each receive checks for $6,000 to support their education and arts
programs. The Belvedere Elementary School in Falls Church will receive
$1,500 to help complete an outdoor classroom.
In addition, each of these Waldorf, Md., schools will receive
C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School
Berry Elementary School
Theodore G. Davis Middle School
William A. Diggs Elementary School
John Hanson Middle School
North Point High School
And each of the following Fairfax, Va., and Falls Church, Va., schools
also will receive $1,000 checks:
Congressional Schools of Virginia
Corpus Christi School
Fairfax High School
Robert Frost Middle School
Pine Spring Elementary School
W.T. Woodson High School
Every month as part of its Outreach
program, Bob's Discount Furniture randomly selects seven schools in
the communities near its stores and makes a donation of $1,000 to each
one. This month, the company is doubling its usual contributions, by
providing funds for school education and arts programs in both Maryland
and Virginia. Bob's has donated money to hundreds of schools over the
past 20 years. Previous recipients have used the donations for such
things as purchasing new art and classroom supplies, funding student
activity groups and going on field trips.
