Lewis County Residents Receive Scam Phone Calls Requesting Credit Card Number
By The Chronicle
Local police would like to remind the community not to give out their credit card information over the phone to automated systems. Chehalis police have been contacted by a number of people reporting an automated message that has been calling both home and cell phones, telling them that their JP Morgan Chase card had been suspended.
The number, which shows up on caller ID as a string of 0s, asks people to enter their credit card number, expiration date and pin number.
While the Chehalis Police Department has not received any criminal reports of the phone scam, Chief Glenn Schaffer said the department has spoken to several people who contacted police concerned about the scam.
"People just need to know that there is never any circumstance where you enter that into the phone," Schaffer said.
This appears to be a nationwide issue, not just a local one, he said.
