BRIEF: Regent's online bachelor's ranked tenth by U.S. News

Jan 15, 2013 (The Virginian-Pilot - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- VIRGINIA BEACH -- Regent University's online bachelor's degree program has been named 10th best in the country by U.S. News & World Report, according to rankings released today.

Regent has offered online bachelor's degrees since 2003 and has 11 programs that can be completed solely online, including business, leadership and management, criminal justice and psychology programs. Portions of other degrees also are offered online, according to a news release.

About 75 percent of Regent's students take at least one course online, according to the release.

This is the second year U.S. News has surveyed online education programs. It evaluated nearly 860 programs based on faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, and student engagement and assessment practices.

Pace University in New York ranked No. 1, followed by Daytona State College in Florida and St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.

"Our goal at Regent is to deliver the highest quality, top-ranked, best-value Christian education possible," Regent president Carlos Campo said in the release. "Receiving a top 10 national ranking among online universities from U.S. News & World Report helps quantify our commitment to educational excellence." ___ (c)2013 The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, Va.)
