BRIEF: Midtown safety meeting will offer tips on how to avoid street crime
Jan 10, 2013 (The Sacramento Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
How to stay safe and avoid becoming a crime victim will be discussed tonight during a midtown public safety community meeting.
The meeting, scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hart Senior Center, 915 27th St., will feature Sacramento City Councilman Steve Hansen and representatives of the Sacramento Police Department, Midtown Business Association and the Marshall School/New Era Park Neighborhood Association.
It comes in the wake of what police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante described as an uptick in street-level crime in the midtown area in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The number of incidents has tapered off, but Gigante said police welcome the chance to meet with residents, discuss their concerns and share information to improve public safety.
"We often learn as much from them as they do from us," Gigante said.
