Kaiser Permanente's "Oh, the Healthy Things You Can Do" Wins Theme Trophy
PASADENA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Officials have announced the winning floats of the 124th
Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Parade and Kaiser Permanente's eighth Rose
Parade® entry has been awarded the Theme Trophy for excellence in
presenting parade theme.
"Kaiser Permanente is honored to have received this year's Theme
trophy," said Benjamin
K. Chu, MD, MPH, MACP, group president for Kaiser
Permanente Southern California and Kaiser
Permanente Hawaii. "And we are especially grateful to our float
decorators, the more than 500 Kaiser Permanente employees who
volunteered their time and dedication, coming from as far as Maryland
and Ohio, to be a part of this time-honored event."
"Oh, the Healthy Things You Can Do!" was brought to life by builders Tim
Estes and Jim Hynd of Fiesta Parade Floats, and float designer Raul R.
Rodriguez. All past Kaiser Permanente float entries produced by the same
dynamic trio have won awards, including the Lathrop K. Leishman Trophy
in 2012; the Director's Trophy in 2011, 2008, 2006; the Extraordinaire
Trophy for the "most spectacular" float in 2010; the Tournament Special
Trophy in 2009 and the President's Trophy in 2007.
A three-member judging panel, comprised of civic and floral industry
leaders, is appointed by the Tournament of Roses Judging Committee to
evaluate the floats within a range of classifications. Scores are based
on criteria such as creative design, floral craftsmanship, artistic
merit, computerized animation, thematic interpretation, floral and color
presentation, and dramatic impact.
Featuring the Cat in the Hat, Sally and Conrad, Thing One and Thing Two,
and Karlos K. Krinklebein the fish, from the best-selling Dr. Seuss
Enterprises, L.P. books, movies, and educational programs, the goal of
the float is get people energized, moving and ready to start the New
