New Partnership Formed to Narrow the Twin Cities' Widening Education Achievement Gap at Launch Event Nov. 29

--(Business Wire)--

Generation Next Partnership:

WHAT:

Generation Next is a new, broad-based group created to address an urgent educational crisis in Minneapolis and Saint Paul: the widening achievement gap between white students and children of color and lower-income households.

WHY:

The Minneapolis/St. Paul region has one of the widest achievement gaps in the nation, and unacceptably low graduation rates among children of color and children from low-income households. More than 500 distinct initiatives are currently working - separately - to narrow the gap. Many of these initiatives have different priorities and measurements for success. Generation Next will identify the most successful programs and replicate them in order to improve all students' academic achievement.

WHEN:

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012
4:30-6:30 p.m. (official program begins at 5:15 p.m.)

WHERE:

McNamara Alumni Center, University of Minnesota
200 SE Oak Street, Minneapolis, MN 55455

CONFIRMED TO ATTEND:

Michael Goar, executive director, Generation Next Partnership

Dr. Eric Kaler, president, University of Minnesota

Kim Nelson, senior vice president, External Relations, General Mills

Breaking Ice, a Twin (News - Alert) Cities acting troupe that develops dynamic theatrical performances; Breaking Ice will set up the problem and dramatize the changes that are needed to narrow the achievement gap.
