Nov 07, 2012 (Sun Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Dayton Vesper, an active solo performer in the region for many years, presents a program of piano music on Nov. 15 at the Bank of the Arts in New Bern. There is no fee for the 6 p.m. concert, but a $5 donation to Craven Arts Council & Gallery is appreciated and will be accepted at the door.
Among the selections, are "Sonatine" by Maurice Ravel; "Waltz in A Minor" and "Scherzo in C# Minor" by Frederic Chopin; and works by Aram Khachaturian and Franz Joseph Haydn.
Vesper said the program will also include "not-so-classical" pieces, including an original composition inspired by Ravel's "Noble & Sentimental Waltzes."
While a student at East Carolina University, Vesper was a winner in the ECU Concerto Competition, performing the Grieg Piano Concerto with the ECU Symphony Orchestra.
He has extensive experience as an accompanist, serving as a faculty pianist in the ECU School of Theatre and Dance from 1999-2010.
Currently, he teaches piano in New Bern as well as working at Craven Community College as accompanist for ENCORE, the choral ensemble of the college.
